Discover the latest controversy surrounding the BJP's new ad mocking opposition leaders ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

As the 2024 Lok Sabha elections draw nearer, the political arena in India has become a battleground of rhetoric and propaganda. The latest addition to this fervent atmosphere is a series of videos released by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), targeting opposition leaders with scathing mockery.

In a move that has stirred controversy and drawn sharp reactions from political circles, the BJP unveiled a video on its official social media platforms titled 'Main Hi Dulha Hoon Right'. This video, released on Wednesday, features characters resembling prominent opposition figures being subjected to ridicule by a shopkeeper.

The central theme of the video revolves around the futility of merely changing the name of alliances without addressing fundamental issues. The shopkeeper asserts that renaming alliances, such as the UPA, which faced rejection in the 2019 elections, will not alter the outcome in 2024.

Notably, the BJP had previously released another video as part of this series, wherein opposition leaders were depicted in a meeting discussing marriage arrangements, with Congress MP Rahul Gandhi being prominently featured. The underlying message of the video aimed to highlight the lack of consensus among opposition leaders in choosing a common candidate to challenge Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Reacting to the BJP's initial video, the Congress party issued a sharp response through its national spokesperson, Supriya Shrinate. Shrinate emphasized the importance of democracy and criticized the BJP's portrayal of matrimonial bonds in the advertisement. She argued that while anyone can assume the role of a groom, the selection of a representative in a democracy demands adherence to principles and values.

"The institution of marriage holds immense sanctity. It's a bond built on mutual trust and love, which, despite lacking blood ties, stands as the strongest foundation for all other relationships in life. Today, the BJP's distasteful advertisement has once again underscored their narrow-minded view, reducing a woman's existence to donning bridal attire and impressing a groom. However, there's a distinction between finding a groom and selecting your representative in a democracy. While anyone can assume the role of a groom, it's imperative to uphold the principles of marital duty," Shrinate stated.

The BJP's advertisement campaign has ignited debates regarding the ethical boundaries of political discourse and the portrayal of gender roles in electoral propaganda. With the election fervor escalating, such exchanges are likely to intensify as political parties vie for public attention and support in the run-up to the polls.
