Renault is gearing up to redefine the SUV segment with the much-anticipated return of the Duster in a new, advanced all-wheel-drive (AWD) hybrid variant. Set to launch globally by late 2025, the hybrid-powered Duster brings innovations like an electrified rear axle and an automatic transmission.

The third-generation Duster, which debuted in Europe in 2023, has already captured attention with its sleek design, advanced technology, and competitive pricing. With the introduction of the AWD version, Renault aims to further elevate the model's appeal, targeting rivals such as Tata SUVs in the compact and mid-size SUV segments.

Renault Duster AWD

The new Renault Duster AWD has been designed to cater to diverse customer needs. It will be available with multiple powertrain options, offering both power and efficiency:

  • 1.0-litre Bi-fuel Engine: Produces 99 bhp, offering an economical yet capable option for city driving and light off-road use.
  • 1.2-litre Mild Hybrid Engine: Generates 128 bhp, striking a balance between performance and fuel efficiency.
  • 1.6-litre Full Hybrid Engine: The top-spec engine delivers 138 bhp, ideal for those seeking more power and a premium driving experience.

Additionally, Renault will offer an LPG variant, emphasizing affordability and lower running costs, which aligns with Dacia's commitment to value-driven vehicles.

Renault Duster Electrified Technology

Renault is taking a bold step toward innovation by electrifying the Duster’s rear axle for its AWD system. This advanced hybrid setup ensures enhanced traction, smoother power delivery, and improved fuel efficiency compared to traditional AWD systems.

The electrified rear axle technology is expected to set a new benchmark in the compact SUV market. It will also likely extend to the Renault Bigster, a larger seven-seat SUV built on the same CMF-B platform. This modular platform, co-developed with Nissan, enables Renault to deliver high-quality vehicles while optimizing development costs.

Moreover, this innovative AWD system could be adopted by Nissan for its own SUV lineup, further expanding its reach in the global market.

Fully Electric Duster

Renault is preparing for the future by confirming plans for an all-electric version of the Duster. The fully electric Duster is expected to debut around 2030-31, aligning with the model’s next-generation upgrade.

However, the journey to full electrification starts with the Dacia Sandero, set to become Dacia’s first EV by 2027. This move reflects Renault’s commitment to embracing sustainable mobility while retaining affordability.

India Launch Postponed to 2026

For Indian SUV enthusiasts, the wait for the new Duster continues, as Renault has pushed its launch to 2026. The first-generation Duster had garnered a loyal fanbase in India with its rugged build, dependable AWD system, and diesel engine.

However, Renault has shifted its focus to hybrid and petrol engines, discontinuing diesel options in its global lineup. While details about the hybrid AWD’s introduction in India remain unclear, it could redefine the market dynamics by offering a unique combination of performance, efficiency, and innovation.
