Indian IT services provider Wipro Ltd (WIPR.NS) has announced its plans to invest $1 billion in artificial intelligence (AI) over the next three years. The company aims to focus its investments on expanding AI, big data, and analytics solutions and developing new research and development platforms.
This move follows a recent announcement by rival Tata Consultancy Services (TCS.NS), which stated its intention to train 25,000 engineers for certification on Microsoft's (MSFT.O) Azure Open AI.
The global business landscape has witnessed increased investments in AI across various sectors, ranging from banks to technology giants, following the success of Microsoft-backed OpenAI's ChatGPT. This generative AI chatbot gained widespread popularity in late 2022.
Wipro has also introduced Wipro ai360, an AI-first innovation ecosystem. Additionally, the company plans to train its approximately 250,000 employees in AI within the next 12 months. Wipro CEO Thierry Delaporte believes that the emergence of generative AI will bring about a fundamental shift in all industries.
