Learn about the merger between Air India and Vistara Airlines and how it is being scrutinized by the Competition Commission. Despite the investigation, both airlines claim that the merger will not have any adverse effects on their operations.


Apart from the timeline, there won’t be any impacts on operations. It comes after CCI asked Air India to explain why an investigation into its merger with Vistara should not take place last month.

Accordingly, Tata Group is merging Vistara Airlines with Air India and creating a single full-service airline with Singapore, resulting in owning a 25.1% share in the new entity. 

According to the Economic Times, the regulator is scrutinising the combination of Air India and Vistara as airline consolidation plans are implemented. Currently, the process has moved to phase 2 and will involve more discussions between the parties and the Competition Commission.

A data analytics firm, Cirium, estimates that entry will be accepted on 49% of the Delhi-Mumbai route's flights.  IndiGo Airlines also has a significant presence on the route, accounting for 31% of total flights. Air India's Delhi- Bengaluru system will account for 52% of total flights, making it the second busiest.

As CCI will conduct a thorough check, no questions will arise after completion.
