If you were planning on purchasing a new BMW in the near future, here is one important thing to know. Starting this summer, on July 1, 2025, BMW is raising the MSRP on most of their 2026 model productions. This increase varies slightly, about 1.9%, which doesn't sound horrible, but it does mean an increase of anywhere from $1,100 to $2,500, depending on the specific model. If you have been looking at a particular model BMW, you should probably act before July and save money.

On the other hand, not every model is affected. For example, electric BMWs such as the i5, i7, and iX are not going to be affected by a price increase. Various models such as the M2 and 2-Series Gran Coupe also stay at the same prices (for now). BMW reports that the change in prices is primarily due to inflation, and some additional standard equipment on models, which as BMW states means you are actually getting more value to your purchase than with previous production models.

Which BMW Models Are Getting More Expensive?

Now to be specific. Some of the hottest BMWs on the market are going to seen price increases starting July 1. The M3, one of BMW's most iconic sports sedans, is going to see its base model increase to around $79,575, up from about $77,875. The M3 Competition, and xDrive versions are also going to see price increases with the xDrive starting at nearly $83,775, and the M3 Competition at nearly $88,875.

If you're a fan of SUVs, the X5 M Competition is going to increase by $2,500, reducing the price to $129,700. The X6 M Competition has a similar increase as well. The 4-Series coupe and Z4 roadster models will see smaller increases of roughly $1,100.

These increases may be upsetting, but remember BMW is offering additional standard features and technology upgrades, so these price increases are not solely inflation - you're paying for a better, refined ride.

Why Is BMW Raising Prices Now?

You are probably asking yourself - why now? The direct answer is inflation and improved features. BMW has said that the price increases reflect increases across the board - from materials to labor - while BMW keeps on raising the bar on quality and tech in the vehicles.

BMW is not like other brands in blaming tariffs or supply chain issues for this price hike; it is a recalibration of pricing that aligns with things BMW has hinted recently in previous price increases. It is also worth mentioning that the luxury car market usually adjusts prices somewhat every year to keep up with market demands and costs. So, this price hike is not unprecedented.

On one hand we must think about price increases like the one we will see ahead; losing our current sticker price and paying a new one. On the other hand, while prices will increase, we are also getting something somewhat newer - new tech, safety features, materials, etc. So in reality, the increase is not entirely the bad news of a price rise, but more like a value adjustment because that price can mean a whole lot of value is about to come along with it.

Should You Buy Before or After July 1?

So if you're ready to purchase, think about the price increase as a factor in your purchase decision. If you buy anything before July 1, you can lock in the current price, and save a few bucks. When I say a few bucks, I am referring to anywhere from $1.1K to $2.5K, depending on the model you choose.

On the other hand, if you don't need a vehicle immediately, it's not the end of the world if you wait until after the price increases. For the 2026 models coming out after July, some of the features will be updated and some new features may be added. So, you may end up getting a better vehicle even if you pay a little more money.

Think about it this way: if you're budget tight, go grab your newer used BMW now. But if you want the newest and greatest features, wait and get the new 2026 model with all the new upgrades.

Either way, it is nice to be educated and make purchase decisions when it suits your priorities, money, and needs.

What’s New in BMW’s 2026 Lineup?

BMW is constantly trying to improve their cars, and their 2026 lineup will follow suit. Across the range, expect new tech features such as state-of-the-art infotainment systems, improved driver-assistance systems, and slight updates to the interior aspects that make the cabin more comfortable and modern.Since safety features like lane-keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control, and upgraded collision warnings have become much more common as standard features, you will ultimately feel more assured behind the wheel.Furthermore, while BMW is still pushing hard on electric vehicles, those models, at least of today, are still being offered at the same overall cost, which is more good news if you are considering going electric. In short, the 2026 BMWs seem to be in a place of providing better quality and tech features to keep pace with the competition in the luxury segment.
