The first deliveries of the BYD Shark 6 pickup trucks have begun in Australia on January 13. These vehicles are part of a shipment that left China in December last year, carrying around 2,000 trucks. Known as the BYD Shark 6 in Australia, more than 5,500 orders have been placed for the vehicle.

The delivery of the first batch was made at BYD’s Brisbane showroom. These trucks sailed from Shanghai on December 17 aboard the Norwegian-registered Turandot, a Ro-Ro ship. However, industrial action in Australia is slowing down the deliveries, with thousands of trucks waiting on ships to be unloaded.

Delivery times for the Shark 6 are currently estimated at six to eight weeks after ordering. This vehicle is the first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) ute to be sold in Australia. Other PHEV utes, like the Canon Alpha Hi4-T from GWM’s Poer brand and a PHEV version of the Ford Ranger, are expected to arrive in 2025.

The BYD Shark 6 is available in one version in Australia and is priced at AUD 57,900 (approximately USD 35,550). It uses a PHEV powertrain with a combined output of 320 kW and a torque of 650 Nm, thanks to two electric motors and an engine that acts primarily as a generator. The Shark 6 offers a 100 km electric-only range and an overall range of 840 km. Its towing capacity is 2,500 kg, while the payload is up to 835 kg.

Australia is the first market to receive right-hand drive versions of the Shark 6, followed by South Africa.
