Mahindra is preparing to launch an all-electric version of its popular XUV700 SUV, likely to be called the XEV 7e. This electric SUV will serve as a counterpart to the electric XEV 9e SUV-coupe. Recently, the design of the production version of the XEV 7e was leaked online, giving us a closer look at its exterior and some interior details.
Exterior Design: Similar to the XUV700
The XEV 7e's overall look is quite similar to the original XUV700, especially in its window lines and LED tail lights. However, the front design stands out with features similar to the XEV 9e. It sports inverted L-shaped LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) and a split headlight design. Another key feature is the aerodynamically designed alloy wheels, which are tailored for an electric vehicle (EV) to enhance efficiency.
Interior Features: Elegant and Modern
Inside, the XEV 7e follows a black-and-white theme with white upholstery for the seats. The cabin design is expected to be modern and premium, with a two-spoke steering wheel that features an illuminated ‘infinity’ logo, just like the XEV 9e. This interior design brings an elevated feel to the electric SUV, which is in line with its upscale positioning.
Expected Features
The XEV 7e will likely come with some cutting-edge features, including a triple-screen setup—three 12.3-inch screens for the driver’s display, infotainment system, and passenger-side display. Additional amenities might include multi-zone air conditioning, a premium sound system, and powered, ventilated front seats with memory function. The car is also expected to offer a panoramic sunroof.
In terms of safety, it will include advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) with Level 2 capabilities. Other expected features include up to seven airbags and a 360-degree camera system, similar to the XEV 9e.
Electric Powertrain
While Mahindra hasn't shared specific details about the battery pack or motor yet, the XEV 7e is expected to offer battery options similar to the XEV 9e. There will likely be two battery options—59 kWh and 79 kWh, offering a range of 542 km and 656 km, respectively, under the MIDC (Modified Indian Driving Cycle) standards.
The XEV 7e will likely be powered by a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) system, delivering power in the range of 231 PS for the smaller battery, or 286 PS for the larger battery. Mahindra may also offer an all-wheel-drive (AWD) option for those preferring more power and stability.
Price and Competitors
The Mahindra XEV 7e is expected to start at Rs 20.9 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete directly with other electric SUVs like the Tata Safari EV, and also offer a robust alternative to the XEV 9e in the electric SUV market.
