Maruti Suzuki has reached a historic achievement by producing two million vehicles in a calendar year for the first time in its history. This makes the company the only original equipment manufacturer (OEM) in India to hit this remarkable milestone in passenger vehicle production. It is also the first among all Suzuki Motor Corporation’s global manufacturing plants to reach this significant target.
The milestone vehicle to roll off the assembly line at Maruti’s facility in Manesar, Haryana, was an Ertiga. Of the two million vehicles produced, around 60 percent were made in Haryana, while 40 percent came from the Gujarat facility. Some of the top models produced during 2024 include the Baleno, Fronx, Ertiga, WagonR, and Brezza.
Maruti Suzuki operates three manufacturing plants in India, two of which are located in Haryana (Gurgaon and Manesar), and one in Gujarat (Hansalpur). Together, these plants have the capacity to produce 2.35 million units annually. To further strengthen its production capabilities, Maruti is expanding its operations with a new plant in Kharkhoda, Haryana.
The construction of the Kharkhoda facility is progressing on schedule, and the first phase, with an annual production capacity of 2.5 lakh units, is expected to begin operations in 2025. Once fully operational, the Kharkhoda plant will be capable of producing 1 million units annually. Maruti Suzuki is also planning a second plant with a capacity of 1 million units and is currently looking for a suitable location for this facility.
This achievement marks a major step forward in Maruti Suzuki’s journey and reflects the company’s continued leadership in the Indian automobile industry.
