Mazda 3 Hatchback & Mazda 3 Sedan Get First Facelift in 6 Years!
The Mazda3 has been around for six years and is long overdue for a refresh. While Mazda has been focusing on expanding its SUV lineup, the compact sedan and hatchback have remained unchanged since their debut in late 2018. Now, independent digital artists have envisioned what a facelifted version might look like, incorporating design cues from Mazda’s latest models.
2027 Mazda3: A Long-Awaited Update
The fourth-generation Mazda3, available in both five-door hatchback and four-door sedan variants, was praised for its sleek and aggressive styling. However, without any significant updates in years, the model is in desperate need of a refresh. Independent renderings now showcase a heavily updated design, borrowing elements from Mazda’s latest SUVs.

What’s New in the Mazda3 Facelift?
Mazda3 Sedan
Digital artist Digimods Design has imagined a next-generation Mazda3 Sedan that takes styling inspiration from the upcoming CX-5. The most noticeable updates include:
- Sharper LED headlights that wrap around the grille, giving a more modern, upscale look.
- A sculpted hood and aggressive bumper intakes for a sportier appearance.
- A refined side profile maintaining the existing greenhouse but with reworked door surfaces and rear fenders for a contemporary look.
- A redesigned rear end, featuring slimmer taillights inspired by Mazda’s SUV lineup, though it might not surpass the previous model’s sculpted rear design.
Mazda3 Hatchback
Unlike the sedan, which received a complete overhaul in renderings, the Mazda3 Hatchback facelift comes from a different digital artist, MV Auto. The hatchback’s new look is influenced by the electrified Mazda 6e/EZ-6 sedan. Updates include:
- A redesigned front fascia, incorporating sleeker headlights and a modernized grille.
- A reworked rear bumper and taillight design, aligning with Mazda’s evolving design language.
- Smoother body lines, maintaining the hatchback’s sporty appeal while modernizing its aesthetic.
What’s Next for the Mazda3?
While Mazda has not confirmed a facelift or new-generation model, enthusiasts remain hopeful. Given that the Mazda6 has been discontinued, the Mazda3 remains the brand’s only ICE-powered sedan. If a new Mazda3 arrives, it is expected to retain its front-wheel-drive platform but could introduce a self-charging hybrid powertrain—possibly derived from Toyota or Mazda’s upcoming hybrid system.
Looking ahead, Mazda’s Skyactiv-Z gasoline powertrain, promised for 2027, could eventually make its way into the Mazda3, offering improved efficiency and performance. Until then, spy shots and leaks may be our best hope for confirmation that the Mazda3 is still in the game.
