Ola Electric Launches Roadster X Series After Sales Data Controversy
Ola Electric has officially started delivering its all-new Roadster X electric motorcycle lineup in India. The launch comes shortly after the company faced scrutiny over a mismatch in its February sales data, which included figures from models that had not yet been released.
The Roadster X series was unveiled at Ola’s Futurefactory in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu. The company introduced three battery variants—2.5 kWh, 3.5 kWh, and 4.5 kWh—offering buyers a range of options based on their performance and budget needs.
Prices and Variants
-
2.5 kWh model: ₹84,999 (~$1,020)
-
3.5 kWh model: ₹94,999 (~$1,140)
-
4.5 kWh model: ₹1,04,999 (~$1,260)
Each variant is designed to deliver strong performance and comes equipped with the latest features. Ola says these bikes can reach a top speed of 125 km/h (about 77 mph) and go from 0 to 40 km/h (0 to 25 mph) in just 2.7 seconds.
Key Features of Roadster X Series
The Roadster X bikes are built for modern electric mobility. All variants are powered by mid-drive motors and use modular battery packs. They also come with the latest MoveOS 5 system, which enables smart connectivity and updates.
Other advanced features include:
-
Brake-by-wire technology
-
Regenerative braking
-
Digital dashboard
-
OTA (over-the-air) software updates
The 4.5 kWh variant offers the longest range—up to 252 kilometers (about 157 miles) on a single charge, based on Indian Driving Cycle (IDC) standards.
Sales Data Controversy
Earlier this year, Ola Electric reported high sales numbers for February, but some of those figures included bookings for bikes that had not yet been launched, including the Roadster X series.
Critics accused the company of inflating its figures, but Ola responded by stating that all numbers were based on confirmed customer bookings—where buyers had already paid significant amounts upfront.
Following this clarification, Ola moved quickly to begin deliveries of the Roadster X models to maintain consumer trust and market momentum.
Ola’s Broader EV Strategy
The Roadster X series is part of Ola Electric’s larger plan to dominate the two-wheeler electric vehicle market in India and expand globally. With its manufacturing hub at the Futurefactory and its focus on vertical integration, Ola aims to cut costs and scale up production rapidly.
Deliveries for the new models are scheduled to begin in mid-April 2025.
