Tata Motors is all set to launch the much-anticipated Harrier EV before the end of this financial year. This electric SUV was first introduced as a concept at the last Auto Expo and is expected to have its near-production version showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024 in New Delhi.
The Harrier EV will closely resemble the prototype displayed last year. It has been spotted testing on public roads, and it is expected to compete with models like the Mahindra XEV 9e, Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara, Hyundai Creta Electric, and the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV. Tata Motors has confirmed that the Harrier EV will offer a range of over 500 km on a single charge. The electric SUV will feature an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system with dual electric motors, one for each axle. A report suggests it will have a 75 kWh battery pack, improving its range and performance.
The Tata Harrier EV will be available in the Empowered grade with twin electric motors for better performance. The production of the vehicle has already started. While Tata has not announced specific details for the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo, many expect this to be the platform for the official launch.
The Harrier EV’s design will include a closed-off front grille, redesigned LED headlamps with DRLs, aerodynamic alloy wheels, and unique LED tail lamps, setting it apart from its diesel-powered counterpart. The cabin will resemble the existing Harrier’s, with added features like Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging capabilities.
Lower and mid-spec versions of the Harrier EV are expected to feature a 60 kWh battery pack for a balance of performance and cost-effectiveness. The EV will come with DC fast charging across all variants for quick recharging. As for safety, Tata aims for the Harrier EV to earn five-star ratings in global crash tests.
