Tesla has announced that it will start selling a redesigned version of its Model Y SUV in the U.S., with deliveries beginning in March. The updated Model Y, called the "Juniper," has a starting price of $59,990 before a federal tax credit of $7,500.
The revamped vehicle includes several upgrades, such as a new front and rear design, updated light bars, ventilated seats, reclining second-row seats, and faster Wi-Fi. Tesla first launched the updated Model Y in China two weeks ago and began taking orders in Canada and Europe on Thursday. CEO Elon Musk shared a video of the new model on the company’s social media account.
This move comes as Tesla works to stay competitive in the global electric vehicle market, which has seen increased competition. Tesla’s next earnings report is expected soon, and the company is likely to discuss how these changes might impact its business.
The new Model Y arrives after Tesla launched the Cybertruck in late 2023, which became the top-selling electric truck in the U.S. However, overall Tesla deliveries dropped in 2024 for the first time.
Meanwhile, political developments could affect Tesla’s sales. President Donald Trump, who was sworn in for his second term earlier this week, has suggested he might repeal the federal electric vehicle tax credit, which has been a key incentive for EV buyers. Such a move could hurt Tesla and its competitors, especially as the EV market continues to grow.
Tesla’s updates to the Model Y aim to attract new customers while helping the company navigate these challenges.
