India introduces e-Student and e-Student-X visas for international students. Learn about eligibility, application process, and benefits for studying in India.

India has launched two special visas designed for international students aspiring to study in the country: the e-student visa and the e-student-x visa.

The e-student visa is intended for international students enrolled in full-time, formal courses, such as undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral (PhD) programs. This visa will enable students to pursue studies in India across various disciplines. The e-student-x visa, on the other hand, is specifically for the dependents of those holding an e-student visa.

Interested students can apply for these visas online through the official website indianvisaonline.gov.in. A unique SII ID is required to verify the authenticity of the application. The Study in India (SII) portal plays a key role in this process, allowing students to manage their applications and track progress.

What is the SII Portal?

The SII Portal is a government initiative managed by the Ministry of Education. It streamlines the admission process for international students and offers courses from over 600 Indian institutes. Students can access a wide range of academic programs, including undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral courses, along with niche programs in areas like Yoga, Buddhist Studies, and paramedical sciences.

The portal covers a variety of disciplines such as engineering, management, law, sciences, and humanities. It provides access to approximately 800 courses offered by universities across India.

Steps to Apply

  1. Create an Account on the SII Portal: Students need to register by providing basic details such as their name, country, date of birth, mobile number, and email ID.

  2. Obtain Your SII ID: After registration, students will receive a unique SII ID, which will be crucial for applying for visas, tracking applications, and other related processes.

  3. Complete the Visa Application: Once registered, students can log in to the SII portal, fill out the application form, and submit it along with any necessary documentation.

  4. Visa Duration and Extension: The e-student visa is issued for a duration of up to five years, based on the course duration. It is also extendable, providing flexibility to students.

This initiative aims to encourage global students to pursue higher education in India while simplifying the visa process. With the e-student visa, international students can easily pursue their academic goals in India, supported by a streamlined and user-friendly application process.
