A Night of Terror at ISU
Okay, so this is crazy. A shooting at Illinois State University’s Bone Student Center last night, April 27th, 2025. One person got hurt, and the whole campus is understandably freaked out. It happened during a huge sorority event – can you imagine? The chaos must have been terrifying. Normal, Illinois, is a pretty quiet place, so this really shook things up.
The Suspect: Still Out There
Police are looking for a slender Black male, around 5’10”, with an afro. He was wearing all black. Last seen heading south from the University and College Streets area. They say he's armed and dangerous, so obviously, everyone’s on high alert. Seriously, who does that?
What Happened That Night?
The shots rang out around 7:55 PM. Total pandemonium. People were scrambling to get out of the Bone Student Center. It must have been a terrifying experience for everyone there. Classes are supposed to resume on Monday, but the Bone Student Center is closed. They sent out an emergency alert, telling people to steer clear, but thankfully, they didn't put the whole campus on lockdown. We still don't know how badly the injured person is hurt.
ISU's Reaction and The Investigation
ISU Police are leading the investigation with the Normal Police Department. They’re checking security footage, talking to witnesses – the whole nine yards. If you know anything, you can reach ISU Police at ISUPolice@ilstu.edu or call 309-438-8631. The university is saying all the right things about increasing security and keeping everyone safe, but honestly, it's easier said than done after something like this.
A Troubling Pattern?
This isn’t the first time something like this has happened near the Bone Student Center. There was another shooting last September 2024, near University and Locust Streets, and sadly, someone died. This just makes you wonder about campus safety and what more can be done to prevent these things from happening. This latest incident is definitely raising a lot of questions and anxieties.
Staying Safe and Informed
This is still unfolding, so it’s important to keep up with official updates from ISU, local news, and the university website. And please, if you see anything suspicious, report it immediately. It’s terrifying to think about, but we need to look out for each other. Getting the suspect into custody and making sure everyone feels safe is priority number one. This whole situation is just heartbreaking.
