PM Modi virtually lays the foundation for two new Delhi University campuses and Veer Savarkar College, aiming to enhance education and modernize infrastructure.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday virtually laid the foundation stones for two new Delhi University (DU) campuses and a college named after Veer Savarkar, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ideologue. The projects, with a total investment of over ₹600 crore, aim to enhance education opportunities and upgrade infrastructure.

The ceremony took place at Ashok Vihar, where the Prime Minister also inaugurated several other infrastructure projects for the national capital.

Expanding DU’s Presence

DU will now have new campuses in East and West Delhi, in addition to its existing North and South campuses. The East Campus will be built at Surajmal Vihar, covering 15.25 acres, with an estimated cost of ₹373 crore. It will offer courses like LLB, LLM, an integrated five-year LLB program, and other multidisciplinary options.

The modern campus will feature:

  • 60 classrooms
  • 10 tutorial rooms
  • 6 moot courts
  • 4 computer labs
  • 2 cafeterias
  • 2 common rooms

Spanning a built-up area of 59,618 square metres, it promises state-of-the-art educational and recreational facilities.

The West Campus, located at Dwarka Sector 22, is being developed at a cost of ₹107 crore in the first phase. This academic block will cover 19,434 square metres, offering facilities like:

  • 42 classrooms
  • 2 moot courts
  • A digital library
  • Conference and seminar halls
  • Separate common rooms for boys and girls

Veer Savarkar College

The foundation stone was also laid for Veer Savarkar College at Roshanpura, Najafgarh, just five minutes from the West Campus. With an estimated cost of ₹140 crore, the college will have a built-up area of 18,816.56 square metres and include:

  • 24 classrooms
  • 8 tutorial rooms
  • 40 faculty rooms
  • Department libraries
  • A canteen
  • Conference rooms

Vision for the Future

These projects reflect DU's commitment to expanding its reach and improving facilities for students across Delhi. Speaking at the event, PM Modi emphasized the importance of modern educational infrastructure in shaping India’s future. The new campuses and college are expected to provide advanced learning spaces and cater to the increasing demand for quality higher education in the city.
