Meet the Top 3 Finalists Before the Big Finale
The journey to crown the next American Idol is almost over. On Sunday, May 12, Season 23 narrowed down its talented group to the final Top 3 contestants — and now, fans are counting down to the grand finale.
After a night filled with Disney songs, strong emotions, and powerful vocals, John Foster, Jamal Roberts, and Breanna Nix secured their spots in the final showdown. Each singer won over America’s hearts and votes, and will now compete for the title during the live finale on May 18.
Slater and Thunderstorm Eliminated in Semi-Finals
Despite strong performances, Slater Nalley and Thunderstorm Artis didn’t get enough votes to move forward. Both were fan favorites and had memorable moments throughout the season. Their journey isn't over yet though — they’ll return for a special group performance in the finale, joining the Top 14 contestants for a farewell celebration.
Disney Night Performances Win Hearts
This episode was the second “Disney Night” of the season, and the singers performed two songs each, guided by special mentor Lin-Manuel Miranda.
-
Breanna Nix fought through nerves and delivered an emotional version of a song from Tarzan, leaving her husband in tears.
-
Jamal Roberts gave a soulful R&B twist to a Beauty and the Beast classic, earning loud applause.
-
John Foster stayed true to his country roots, charming the audience with his cowboy style and confidence.
Adding to the excitement, Iam Tongi, last season’s winner, returned to the Idol stage with a performance tied to the upcoming live-action Lilo & Stitch movie.
