YouTube TV subscribers might soon lose access to over 20 Paramount-owned channels, including CBS, BET, Comedy Central, MTV, and Nickelodeon. This is due to a contract dispute between YouTube TV and Paramount Global. If they don’t reach an agreement, the channels could be removed as early as February 13.
Other affected channels include CBS Sports Network, Paramount Network, CMT, Nick Jr., Smithsonian Channel, TV Land, and VH1. Additionally, streaming services like Paramount+ and BET+ could also be removed from YouTube TV’s Primetime Channels.
Local CBS stations in major cities like New York, Philadelphia, Dallas, and San Francisco may also go dark if a deal isn’t reached. Subscribers would even lose any recorded content from Paramount channels.
What YouTube and Paramount Are Saying
Paramount accuses YouTube TV of making unfair demands that could force them to remove their channels. YouTube TV, on the other hand, says it is working to keep the channels without increasing costs for subscribers.
If the dispute continues for a long time, YouTube TV users may get an $8 credit. However, Paramount suggests viewers can still watch their content by subscribing to Paramount+ separately for $7.99 per month.
This dispute comes after YouTube TV recently increased its base subscription price by $10, now costing $82.99 per month.
Both companies say they hope to reach an agreement, but if not, millions of YouTube TV subscribers could lose access to Paramount’s popular content.
