British band Coldplay has made history by delivering India’s largest ticketed concert ever. On Sunday, their final show in Ahmedabad as part of the Music of the Spheres World Tour saw an astounding 1.34 lakh fans gather at the Narendra Modi Stadium. This monumental crowd smashed previous records, outshining performances by artists like Diljit Dosanjh and Justin Bieber, whose biggest concerts in India drew 50,000 fans each.
Coldplay’s Record-Breaking India Tour
Coldplay performed five shows during their India tour, starting with three sold-out concerts in Mumbai before heading to Ahmedabad for two back-to-back performances. Their last show on Sunday night not only became India’s largest concert but also marked Coldplay’s biggest show ever, surpassing their 83,000-fan gig in Sydney last year.
Why Ahmedabad Made History
The Narendra Modi Stadium, India’s largest venue, played a key role in achieving this record. With a seating capacity of over a lakh in the stands and additional fans on the ground, the stadium provided space for a massive audience of nearly 1.4 lakh people. In contrast, Justin Bieber’s 2017 show at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium and Diljit Dosanjh’s 2024 Chandigarh concert were held in smaller venues, limiting their crowd sizes.
A Star-Studded Celebration
Coldplay’s Mumbai performances were attended by several celebrities, including Shreya Ghoshal, Suhana Khan, and Navya Naveli Nanda, while cricketer Jasprit Bumrah was spotted enjoying the Ahmedabad concert. Fans who couldn’t attend the shows in person were able to watch the Ahmedabad concert live on Disney+ Hotstar, making it accessible to an even wider audience.
With their historic India tour, Coldplay has set a new benchmark for live concerts in the country, bringing together over a lakh fans for an unforgettable musical experience. Their record-breaking shows have not only entertained audiences but also rewritten the history of live performances in India.
