Harris Dickinson as John Lennon? Whoa.
Okay, so Hollywood’s been buzzing – and rightfully so! Sam Mendes, the guy behind American Beauty and 1917, is making a four-part Beatles biopic. Four parts! And it’s supposed to be in theaters April 2028. I know, right? Ambitious.
But the *really* big news? They finally announced the cast at CinemaCon 2025, and it’s…interesting.
A Fab Four…ish?
Harris Dickinson is playing John Lennon. Paul Mescal is Paul McCartney. Barry Keoghan is Ringo Starr. And Joseph Quinn is George Harrison. Honestly, who saw that coming? Each movie will be from one Beatle's perspective, which is… a bold choice.
The thing is, they’ve actually gotten the full life story and music rights from Apple Corps Ltd. That's huge. This is the first time that’s ever happened for a scripted Beatles movie, which is pretty wild.
Social Media Meltdown (or, is it a party?)
The internet, as it does, immediately exploded. People are…divided. Some are thrilled. These actors are all seriously talented – I mean, Gladiator II, Normal People, Stranger Things… it’s a stacked lineup. But then there's the whole “do they look like the Beatles?” debate raging on X (formerly Twitter).
Some folks are all, “Yes! Amazing casting, great actors!” Others are… less convinced. You know how sometimes things just spiral? It kinda felt like watching a slow-motion trainwreck on social media. Lots of strong opinions flying around.
A New Generation of Fans (hopefully)?
Mendes is calling this "the first bingeable theatrical experience," which is… a statement. The idea is to get people back into theaters with this fresh take on the Fab Four. They’re aiming for an unprecedented level of detail in the story.
It’s a massive undertaking by Sony Pictures, a real attempt to reinvent the theatrical moviegoing experience. April 2028… it’s a long wait, but this is the kind of project that could actually pull it off.
More Than Just a Movie
This isn't just another celebrity-filled biopic; it's a historic event. Getting the full rights to the Beatles' story and music? That's unprecedented. It's a groundbreaking thing, which makes it even more exciting (and also maybe a little nerve-wracking for everyone involved!).
I'm curious to see how they handle the different perspectives, to get a deeper look into what made these iconic musicians tick. It's going to be a fascinating – and probably emotional – ride. We’ll definitely be watching.
Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to 2028!
