JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar have officially merged to form a new streaming platform called JioHotstar. This new platform is a result of a collaboration between Viacom18 and Star India. According to the official announcement, JioHotstar will offer over 3 lakh hours of entertainment, extensive live sports coverage, and reach more than 50 crore users.
Free Upgrade for Existing Users
The company has confirmed that JioHotstar will be free to access for now, allowing users to watch their favorite content without a subscription. However, in the future, a hybrid model may be introduced where some content remains free, while premium content requires a paid subscription.
If you already have a Disney+ Hotstar Premium or JioCinema Premium subscription, you will be automatically upgraded to a JioHotstar plan. This means:
- If your Disney+ Hotstar annual plan is valid until September 2025, you can continue watching JioHotstar for free until then.
- Similarly, JioCinema Premium subscribers can enjoy their existing plan benefits on JioHotstar without extra charges.
