In a shocking turn of events, Aliya Fakhri, the sister of Bollywood actress Nargis Fakhri, has been arrested and indicted on multiple charges of murder and arson following a deadly fire at her ex-boyfriend’s home in Queens, New York. The fire, which claimed the lives of her former partner Edward Jacobs and his friend Anastasia Ettienne, has left the community and authorities in disbelief.

Charges Against Aliya Fakhri

Aliya Fakhri, 43, faces serious charges, including four counts of first-degree murder, four counts of second-degree murder, and arson charges. The incident took place early on the morning of November 23, 2024, when Fakhri allegedly set fire to a detached garage at Jacobs’ residence. Authorities say that Fakhri intentionally set the fire after her romantic attempts to reconcile with Jacobs, aged 35, had been rejected.

Prosecutors have described Fakhri’s actions as both premeditated and malicious. According to the indictment, Fakhri arrived at the property at approximately 6:20 a.m. and was heard shouting, "You’re all going to die today," before starting the blaze. Jacobs, who was reportedly asleep at the time, was trapped inside the garage. His friend, Ettienne, 33, attempted to rescue him, but both victims died from smoke inhalation and severe thermal injuries.

“This defendant maliciously ended the lives of two people by setting a fire that trapped a man and woman in a raging inferno,” said Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz. Katz emphasized that the crime was particularly heinous due to the brutal and intentional nature of the act.

A Devastating Loss

The victims' families have expressed shock and grief over the deaths. Janet Jacobs, mother of Edward Jacobs, spoke to the press, recalling her son’s kind nature and lamenting that his life was tragically cut short by Fakhri’s actions. “Edward did not deserve this. He was a loving son and friend. Our family is devastated by this loss,” she said tearfully.

The devastating fire, which quickly spread throughout the garage, left no chance for escape. Officials are investigating whether there were any additional factors that may have contributed to the fire's rapid escalation. Preliminary reports suggest that accelerants were used to ensure the blaze spread uncontrollably.

Upcoming Court Appearance

Fakhri was arrested shortly after the incident and has been held without bail. She is expected to appear in court on December 9, where the full extent of the charges against her will be addressed. If convicted on all counts, she could face a significant prison sentence. Her legal team has yet to comment on the charges or their defense strategy.

The tragic case has garnered significant media attention, not only because of the horrific nature of the crime but also due to Fakhri’s high-profile family connections. As the investigation continues, many are left to grapple with the chilling implications of this tragedy and the stark reality of a relationship gone horribly wrong.

Authorities have urged anyone with further information about the case to come forward, as the investigation remains ongoing.
