In a shocking turn of events, Aliya Fakhri, the sister of Bollywood actress Nargis Fakhri, has been arrested and indicted on multiple charges of murder and arson following a deadly fire at her ex-boyfriend’s home in Queens, New York. “This defendant maliciously ended the lives of two people by setting a fire that trapped a man and woman in a raging inferno,” said Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz. Katz emphasized that the crime was particularly heinous due to the brutal and intentional nature of the act.
A Devastating Loss
The victims' families have expressed shock and grief over the deaths. Janet Jacobs, mother of Edward Jacobs, spoke to the press, recalling her son’s kind nature and lamenting that his life was tragically cut short by Fakhri’s actions. “Edward did not deserve this. He was a loving son and friend. Our family is devastated by this loss,” she said tearfully.
The devastating fire, which quickly spread throughout the garage, left no chance for escape. Officials are investigating whether there were any additional factors that may have contributed to the fire's rapid escalation.
