Nina Gummich: A German Actress to Watch
Okay, so you've probably heard of Louis Hofmann – he’s amazing in the new film "The Forger." But let me tell you about another German actress who’s seriously making a name for herself: Nina Gummich. I recently saw both "The Forger" and her Netflix film, "For Jojo," and honestly, I’m blown away by her versatility.
Nina's Role in "The Forger"
In Maggie Peren's "The Forger," based on the incredible true story of Cioma Schönhaus, Gummich plays Frau Peters, Cioma's landlady. Now, the promotional stuff doesn't give away much about her character’s specific storyline, but seeing her alongside Louis Hofmann (you know, Jonas from Dark!) and Luna Wedler in that tense 1940s Berlin setting? It’s just electrifying. The whole film is about Schönhaus’s unbelievably brave forgery work saving hundreds of Jews from the Nazis – it’s intense.
A Very Different Nina in "For Jojo"
Then there’s "For Jojo," the Netflix movie. This is a completely different beast. It's a contemporary drama, and Gummich plays Jojo, one half of a seriously co-dependent friendship with Paula (played by Cara Cult). It's a pretty intimate portrayal of their relationship and, let's just say, Paula's behavior is… not great. It's intense, you know? It explores those really complicated friendships where things can get messy really fast. Gummich and Cult are phenomenal together; they make this complicated, intense bond so believable.
Seriously Talented
What's so impressive about Gummich is how different these two roles are. From the historical weight of "The Forger" to the emotional rawness of "For Jojo," she just completely inhabits each character. It's clear she’s not just a talented actress, she’s a versatile one. And with both films getting some serious buzz, I think it’s safe to say we'll be seeing a lot more of Nina Gummich in the years to come.
Where to Find Her
You can catch Nina Gummich right now in "The Forger," currently playing in select German cinemas. I’ve heard whispers of a US release soon – fingers crossed! And "For Jojo" is streaming on Netflix. Seriously, go check her out. You won’t regret it. This woman is going places, and I, for one, am excited to see where her career takes her.
