India faced disappointment at the Critics Choice Awards 2025 as both All We Imagine As Light and Citadel: Honey Bunny failed to win in their respective categories.
Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light, which was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film, lost to Emilia Perez, starring Selena Gomez. The Indian film had high expectations, especially after winning the Grand Prix at Cannes 2024, but it has struggled to secure wins at major Hollywood awards like the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards.
The movie was also not India’s official entry for the 2025 Oscars, as the Film Federation of India chose Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies instead. However, Laapataa Ladies did not receive an Oscar nomination either.
Meanwhile, Amazon Prime Video’s Citadel: Honey Bunny, starring Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, was nominated for Best Foreign Language Series but lost to the Netflix hit Squid Game.
The 30th Critics Choice Awards were held in Los Angeles on February 7, 2025, with film and television nominations being announced separately. The event was streamed live in India on Lionsgate Play.
