Released on December 5, Pushpa 2: The Rule brought back Allu Arjun as the iconic anti-hero, supported by Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil. The movie pulled in a whopping 10.8 lakh solo viewers, making it the undisputed champion of the year. The sequel to the 2021 hit Pushpa: The Rise continues to perform exceptionally well at the box office.
November 1 was another record-breaking day for movies, with 2.3 million tickets sold in just 24 hours, further cementing 2024 as a massive year for Indian cinema. Nostalgia also hit the screens with re-releases of classic favorites like Kal Ho Na Ho, Rockstar, and Laila Majnu, which saw renewed demand.
Music Mania and Live Events Boom
BookMyShow’s report also highlighted a significant rise in live entertainment. India witnessed 30,687 live events across 319 cities, marking an 18% growth in live entertainment consumption. Major highlights included performances by Nick Jonas and the Jonas Brothers at Lollapalooza India, Diljit Dosanjh, and Maroon 5.
Music tourism surged, with over 4.77 lakh fans traveling outside their cities for live music events. Coldplay’s Music Of The Spheres World Tour in Ahmedabad attracted fans from over 500 cities, while Tier 2 cities like Kanpur, Shillong, and Gandhinagar saw a remarkable 682% growth in live events.
Solo Experiences on the Rise
Over 8.87 lakh fans attended events solo, showcasing a growing trend of independent participation. Meanwhile, BookMyShow Stream users consumed 107,023 hours of content in 2024, with 446 new titles added to its library of nearly 3,000 films.
With milestones like these, Pushpa 2 and live events proved that 2024 was a year to remember for entertainment enthusiasts across India.
