Ryan Reynolds may have missed the 2025 Critics Choice Awards, but he didn’t miss celebrating Deadpool & Wolverine’s big win!
The highly anticipated superhero film, starring Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, won the award for Best Comedy, tying with A Real Pain. Although Reynolds couldn’t attend the event at Barker Hangar, Santa Monica, on February 7, he made sure to acknowledge the victory online.
Taking to Instagram Stories, he reshared a post from the official Deadpool movie account, which read:
"Hughlarious. Congratulations to the cast and crew of #DeadpoolAndWolverine on their Critics Choice Awards win for Best Comedy! #CriticsChoice."
Why Ryan Reynolds Skipped the Ceremony
Reynolds’ absence wasn’t a complete surprise. The actor and entrepreneur has been juggling multiple projects, including:
- Buying a new football club in Bogotá, Colombia, alongside his Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney.
- Filming his latest Mint Mobile ad, adding to his long list of hilarious commercials.
- Speaking at a JP Morgan summit with Disney CEO Bob Iger and Creative Artists Agency CEO Bryan Lourd.
Additionally, his wife, Blake Lively, is currently involved in a legal dispute with Justin Baldoni, which even got a mention in host Chelsea Handler’s monologue. Reynolds may have wanted to avoid any unexpected drama at the event.
A Big Win for Deadpool & Wolverine
Despite his absence, the celebration was well-deserved. The film, featuring Hugh Jackman, Channing Tatum, Emma Corrin, and Leslie Uggams, was a massive box office success, earning over $1.3 billion worldwide. It beat contenders like Hit Man, My Old A**, Saturday Night, and Thelma to take home the Best Comedy award.
Even though Reynolds wasn’t at the ceremony, his appreciation for the win was loud and clear. Fans can’t wait to see what’s next for the Merc with a Mouth!
