Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan has been discharged from Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital, where he was undergoing treatment following a shocking knife attack during a burglary attempt at his Bandra home. The incident occurred six days ago, leaving the nation in disbelief over the breach of safety in a prominent Mumbai neighborhood.
Saif was attacked by an intruder who broke into his home late at night, armed with a wooden stick and a long Hexa blade. The actor sustained six stab wounds, including a critical injury near his spine that narrowly missed his spinal cord by just 2 mm. The attack also resulted in a spinal fluid leak, necessitating emergency surgery. Additionally, Saif underwent plastic surgery for wounds on his arm and neck.
Heavy security has been deployed at Saif’s Bandra residence and the hospital to control crowds gathered to catch a glimpse of the actor. Saif has been advised complete bed rest for a week and has been requested to avoid visitors to prevent any risk of infection.
The attack unfolded around 2 am when Eliyama Philip, the caretaker for Saif’s sons, Taimur and Jeh, heard noises. Upon investigating, she discovered a man in the house who threatened her with a Hexa blade, demanding ₹1 crore in ransom. When she resisted, the intruder attacked her, causing injuries to her hands. Her screams woke Saif and Kareena Kapoor Khan, who confronted the attacker. In the ensuing scuffle, Saif was severely injured but managed to escape with his family to the upper floor, locking the intruder behind them. The attacker eventually fled.
The police later arrested the accused, Shariful Islam Shehzad, a Bangladeshi national living illegally in India under the alias Bijoy Das. He has been charged with breaking into Saif’s home and attempting to rob and assault the family. As part of their investigation, the police took Shehzad to the Bandra residence to recreate the crime scene.
This incident has raised serious concerns about Mumbai’s law and order situation. Despite the alarming events, fans of Saif Ali Khan can now breathe a sigh of relief as the actor is on the path to recovery at his home, surrounded by tight security.
