The family of Selena Quintanilla and her widower, Chris Pérez, expressed gratitude after the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles denied parole for Yolanda Saldívar, the woman convicted of murdering the beloved singer.
On March 27, nearly 30 years after Selena’s tragic death, the board announced that Saldívar would remain in prison for at least five more years.
Justice Stands for Selena
In an official statement, the board explained that parole was denied due to the nature of the crime, citing “brutality, violence, and a conscious disregard for human life.”
Chris Pérez took to Instagram to react to the decision, writing, “While nothing can bring Selena back, this decision reaffirms that justice continues to stand for the beautiful life that was taken from us.”
He also thanked fans for their continued love and support, emphasizing that Selena’s legacy lives on through her music and spirit.
Selena’s Tragic Death in 1995
Selena was only 23 years old when she was shot and killed by Saldívar on March 31, 1995.
Once a trusted friend and manager of Selena’s fan club, Saldívar was fired after being accused of stealing money from Selena’s business. When Selena met her at a Corpus Christi motel to retrieve financial records, Saldívar shot her in the back.
Selena managed to identify her attacker before collapsing. Despite efforts to save her, she did not survive.
Later that year, Saldívar was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison. With this latest decision, justice for Selena continues.
