Veteran actress Shabana Azmi has addressed the comparisons between her latest Netflix series, Dabba Cartel, and Saas, Bahu Aur Flamingo. The crime thriller has gained attention for its gripping storyline and strong female characters, leading to parallels with Dimple Kapadia’s hit series.
In an interview with India Today, Shabana admitted that she was initially worried about direct comparisons. She said, “Prior to watching the show, I was concerned that we would be directly compared.” However, her daughter-in-law, Shibani Akhtar—who is also the creator of Dabba Cartel—was confident that the two shows were different.
"Shibani assured me that it won’t happen. Seeing her belief, I was relieved. And after watching the show, I realized it was very well-made but quite different from ours," Shabana added.
Directed by Hitesh Bhatia, Dabba Cartel features a stellar cast including Shabana Azmi, Gajraj Rao, Jyotika, Shalini Pandey, Nimisha Sajayan, Sai Tamhankar, Jisshu Sengupta, Lillete Dubey, and Bhupendra Singh Jadawat. The show, co-produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, and Shibani Akhtar under Excel Entertainment, tells the story of five housewives in 1960s Mumbai who secretly run a high-stakes cartel.
