Singer Sonu Nigam recently expressed his disappointment over the fact that well-known singers like Alka Yagnik, Shreya Ghoshal, and others have not yet received the prestigious Padma Awards. In a video posted on Instagram, Sonu highlighted the exceptional contributions of these singers and how they have inspired generations of music lovers and artists.

Sonu said in the video, “There are singers who have inspired the entire world. One of them, Mohammed Rafi, was honored with the Padma Shri, but Kishore Kumar, despite his enormous influence, never received a Padma Shri.” He also pointed out that while some awards are being given posthumously, Kishore Kumar didn’t even receive this recognition during his lifetime.

He continued by mentioning other deserving singers like Alka Yagnik, who has had a remarkable career, yet hasn't received any major awards, and Shreya Ghoshal, who has been impressing listeners for years. Sonu also spoke about Sunidhi Chauhan, whose unique voice has inspired an entire generation, but she too has not been honored with a Padma Award.

Sonu concluded his video by encouraging his followers to name other deserving individuals in music, acting, science, or literature who have not yet been honored with the Padma Awards.

Sonu Nigam himself received the Padma Shri in 2022, an honor he initially thought was too late to accept. In the past, he had even joked about refusing the award with a response: "Don’t you think it is too late in the day to give me Padma Shri?"

Sonu Nigam, who has sung over 10,000 songs in several Indian languages, continues to be a prominent figure in the music industry, inspiring countless fans and fellow artists.
