Hrithik Roshan to Resume Filming 'War 2' as Ayan Mukerji Shoots with Body Doubles
Filmmaker Ayan Mukerji has started work on War 2, one of Bollywood's most anticipated action films, by shooting key action scenes using body doubles for lead actors Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR. The initial shooting schedule of War 2 has already taken place in Spain. Since Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR weren’t available during this time, body doubles stepped in to perform the action-heavy scenes. Director Ayan Mukerji didn’t want to delay the project, so he used advanced planning and technology to keep the production on track.
This isn’t the first time Bollywood has used this strategy—films like Pathaan have also used digital face replacement to edit the actors' faces onto their stunt doubles in post-production.
High-Tech Visual Effects Will Fill the Gap
The action scenes were carefully filmed so that visual effects teams can later replace the body doubles’ faces with those of Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR. This kind of digital editing is becoming more common in big-budget Bollywood films, especially in franchises like the YRF Spy Universe, where continuity and scale matter a lot.
By using this method, the filmmakers can ensure tight shooting schedules and avoid delays due to actors' availability.
Hrithik Roshan Will Join the Shoot Soon
According to reports, Hrithik Roshan is scheduled to begin filming his scenes in March 2024. He’s expected to shoot for about 60 days, focusing on high-energy, large-scale action sequences. These will likely include scenes from the movie’s opening, setting the tone for the rest of the story.
Fans can expect intense stunts and dramatic visuals, typical of the franchise that kicked off with the first War film in 2019.
When Will War 2 Be Released?
The film is expected to hit theaters on August 14, 2025, just ahead of India’s Independence Day. This strategic release date has worked well for other patriotic-themed or action-packed Indian films.
War 2 is the sixth movie in Yash Raj Films’ Spy Universe, which also includes Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, War, Pathaan, and Tiger 3. The franchise has become one of Bollywood’s most successful cinematic universes.
Cast and What to Expect
Along with Hrithik Roshan and Telugu superstar Jr. NTR, the film also stars Kiara Advani, who is rumored to play a strong female lead. The story is expected to be darker and more intense than its predecessor, with global-scale threats, espionage, and powerful action scenes.
