Australian soap opera Neighbours has been cancelled again, just two years after Amazon MGM Studios revived it. The show will officially end in December 2025, marking the second time in three years that it has been axed.

Neighbours: A Second Farewell

First cancelled in 2022 after Channel 5 stopped funding, Neighbours made a surprise comeback on Amazon Prime Video. However, Amazon has now confirmed that the series will be "resting" from 2025, without giving a specific reason. Despite its massive fanbase in Australia and the UK, and even receiving its first Emmy nomination in 2023, the soap’s future is once again uncertain.

A Legacy That Launched Stars

Neighbours has been a TV staple for 40 years, running for over 9,000 episodes. It helped launch the careers of famous stars like Kylie Minogue, Guy Pearce, and Margot Robbie. The show also introduced diverse storylines, including the first same-sex marriage on Australian TV. However, it has faced controversies, including racism allegations from former cast members.

Hope for a revival?

Executive producer Jason Herbison hinted that Neighbours could return in the future, saying there are still stories to tell. While Amazon will no longer support it, the production team may seek new backers.

For now, new episodes will continue airing four times a week on Amazon Prime Video and Channel Ten until the end of 2025.
