Ayan Mukerji's romantic comedy Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, featuring Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, re-released in cinemas on Friday, offering fans a nostalgic treat and adding a festive spirit for the New Year. According to Sacnilk, the film made an impressive ₹1.20 crore on its opening day.
The movie sold 65,000 tickets and contributed an additional ₹1.20 crore to its impressive total collection, which currently stands at ₹188.57 crore in India and ₹318 crore worldwide. This opening has helped Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani secure the second-highest collection for a re-released film, right behind Tumbbad (2018), which earned ₹1.50 crore on its re-release last year.
In terms of re-release earnings, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani has outperformed other films that were re-released in recent years. It significantly surpassed Laila Majnu (₹30 lakh), Karan Arjun (₹25 lakh), Veer-Zaara (₹20 lakh), and Kal Ho Naa Ho (₹12 lakh).
Karan Johar, who produced the film under Dharma Productions, shared his excitement on Instagram by posting a video of the theater audience joyfully dancing to the hit song "Badtameez Dil." He captioned the video, “Converting cinemas into rock concerts! YJHD is back in theatres!”
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, which became a cult romantic comedy, also starred Kalki Koechlin, Aditya Roy Kapur, Farooq Shaikh, Tanvi Azmi, Kunaal Roy Kapur, and Rana Daggubati. The film, with music by Pritam, brought together the themes of friendship, love, travel, and adventure. It marked Ranbir and Deepika's first film together after their break-up, and they later reunited in Tamasha (2015). The movie also marked the second collaboration between Ranbir and Ayan Mukerji, with the first being Wake Up Sid (2009) and the third being Brahmastra: Part One - Shiva (2022).
