In a deadly encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district, four police personnel lost their lives, while two terrorists were shot dead. Security forces continue operations as three to four terrorists are still hiding in the area, sources confirmed on Thursday.
Ongoing Gun Battle in Kathua
The encounter took place in the Juthana forests, where security personnel engaged in close combat with heavily armed terrorists. The operation, led by Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police Nalin Prabhat, has been ongoing for the past five days.
During the exchange of fire, five security personnel, including a deputy superintendent of police, sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment at a hospital.
How the Encounter Unfolded
The situation escalated after a local resident reported seeing two men in army uniforms asking for water. Acting on this lead, security forces launched an intensive search operation.
On Sunday, at least five terrorists were trapped in the Sanyal forests but managed to escape to Juthana, about 20 km away. They left behind magazines of US-made M4 rifles, indicating access to advanced weaponry.
Security Forces in Action
The operation includes teams from multiple security agencies, including:
-
Army
-
National Security Guard (NSG)
-
Border Security Force (BSF)
-
Special Operations Group (SOG)
-
Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)
Advanced equipment like helicopters, drones, bulletproof vehicles, and sniffer dogs are being used to track and neutralize the terrorists.
More Terrorists Still at Large
Authorities believe the terrorists infiltrated India on Saturday. The security forces are confident that the remaining terrorists will be neutralized soon.
The situation remains tense as the forces continue to comb the area. Further updates are expected as the operation progresses.
