Bharti Airtel has signed a deal with Elon Musk's SpaceX to bring Starlink satellite internet to India. This marks the first such agreement in the country, pending SpaceX's final approvals to offer Starlink services in India.
Expanding Connectivity Across India
Airtel and SpaceX will work together to provide Starlink internet services through Airtel’s retail stores, offering high-speed internet to businesses, communities, schools, and healthcare centers, even in remote areas.
The partnership will also explore how Starlink can enhance Airtel’s network by integrating its satellite capabilities with Airtel’s ground infrastructure in India.
A Major Step for Internet Access
Gopal Vittal, MD and Vice Chairman of Bharti Airtel, called this a "significant milestone", stating that Starlink will complement Airtel’s existing services, ensuring affordable broadband for people across the country.
Gwynne Shotwell, President of SpaceX, expressed excitement about the partnership, highlighting Starlink's potential to revolutionize connectivity for businesses and communities in India.
Looking Ahead
With this deal, Airtel strengthens its commitment to digital solutions and expands its reach, particularly in underserved areas with little to no internet coverage. Once Starlink secures necessary approvals, its services will be available across India, making high-speed satellite internet a reality for millions.
