The Allahabad High Court Bar Association has announced an indefinite strike starting today (March 25) in protest against the transfer of Justice Yashwant Varma.

Bar Association President Anil Tiwari stated that lawyers in Allahabad would not work until their concerns were addressed. He also mentioned that a request had been sent to the Bar Associations in Lucknow to join the protest.

Why Is Justice Yashwant Varma Being Transferred?

The Supreme Court collegium recently confirmed its decision to transfer Justice Varma to the Allahabad High Court, which is his parent court.

Justice Varma is currently under investigation after a large amount of cash was reportedly found at his official residence in Delhi following a fire. However, he was not present at the time.

Bar Association’s Stand

The Allahabad High Court Bar Association strongly opposes his transfer. They believe that all judgments delivered by Justice Varma during his time in both the Allahabad and Delhi High Courts should be reviewed to restore public trust in the judiciary.

Justice Varma’s Response

Justice Varma has denied any wrongdoing, calling the allegations a "conspiracy to tarnish" his reputation. He stated that neither he nor his family had any knowledge of the money discovered at his residence.

As the strike continues, the situation remains tense, with legal professionals demanding a fair review of the case.
