The Allahabad High Court on Monday granted anticipatory bail to Sushil Singhania, the uncle of the estranged wife of a Bengaluru techie who recently died by suicide. Justice Ashutosh Srivastava passed the order while hearing Singhania’s anticipatory bail application.
Senior counsel Manish Tiwary, representing the accused, argued that Singhania was being unfairly implicated in the case, which has gained significant attention due to a viral suicide note and video allegedly left by the deceased. Tiwary highlighted that the deceased’s wife, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law had already been arrested by the Bengaluru Police. The bail plea was filed on behalf of Singhania alone
The counsel argued that the accusations against Singhania were baseless, especially considering his age and health condition. Tiwary emphasized that the applicant was “virtually incapacitated” and could not have played a role in abetting the suicide. He also pointed out that the accused was facing a severe media trial, which was adding to his distress.
After reviewing the submissions, the court observed that there was sufficient ground to grant anticipatory bail. “Considering the above, the court is of the opinion that applicant Sushil Singhania is entitled to get the privilege of pre-arrest (Transit) Anticipatory Bail,” Justice Srivastava stated.
The Bengaluru techie’s suicide has sparked widespread attention, with allegations against his in-laws being a central focus of the investigation. Police have cited the deceased’s suicide note and video as key evidence in the case. However, Singhania’s counsel argued that these materials do not establish his involvement.
This decision grants Singhania protection from immediate arrest, allowing him to defend himself against the allegations. Further investigations into the case are ongoing.
