2023 can be regarded as the year of layoffs! Yet another hit was witnessed by Amazon employees in India, where around 500 employees were laid off. Resources stated that this downsizing was part of the layoffs of 9,000 employees announced in March.

The Economic Times reported, “Employees from Amazon Web Services (AWS), human resources, and support services are being let go as part of the ongoing layoff process.” As per the source of Business Today, his whole team of 17 employees were laid off he further stated that around 100 employees were discharged from the PXT vertical, which is now one of the most vulnerable verticals.

More than 80 individuals were let off from data management teams on Friday, according to a corporate employee who works in the data management vertical, stated Business Today. They will receive medical insurance in addition to the normal severance.

Late in April, AWS CEO Adam Selipsky informed the company's employees via internal mail that layoffs would start with the North American teams before spreading internationally. He pointed out that the macroeconomic environment and the slowing development of AWS sales were the main causes of the reduction cycle.

Due to client demand for the cloud and the value AWS provides, our business and workforce have significantly grown in recent years. We worked rapidly to meet customer needs, resulting in this expansion. Given the quick growth and the current business environment, it is essential to focus on identifying and supporting our top priorities that matter most to consumers and have the highest impact on our company, stated Selipsky in the memo released last month.

In a similar memo, Beth Galetti, Senior VP and Global Head of PXT stated, Executives are collaborating to prioritize consumer needs and company sustainability. They are determining future investments, which affects OP2 plans. To maintain a tight relationship with the enterprise, positions within the PXT group had to be eliminated.

In the other part of the news apart from Amazon layoffs, Amazon has shut down the Amazon Digital Kendra, a seller support function, which might undergo revamping and re-launched soon. But the employees impacted have either been laid off or reassigned to other areas.

Though an official statement has still to be received from Amazon, confirming the layoffs. To stay updated about it follow Jobaaj Stories!
