A 28-year-old man from Bengaluru was booked by the police for allegedly assaulting his roommate’s pet cat after the animal defecated in his room. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday night in a flat in BTM Layout, has sparked widespread outrage after a video shared by the cat’s owner went viral on social media.
The accused, Manish Ratnakar, shared the flat with 25-year-old Mohammed Aftab, who owned the cat. According to the complaint filed by Aftab, the altercation began when the cat defecated in Ratnakar’s room. Enraged, Ratnakar reportedly called Aftab and demanded that the cat be removed from the flat. When Aftab returned home and asked about the cat, Ratnakar initially denied knowing its whereabouts. However, Aftab soon discovered the cat hidden in a bucket on the terrace, bleeding and injured.
Upon confronting Ratnakar, the accused allegedly admitted to kicking the cat out of frustration. The injured pet was immediately taken to a veterinary clinic for medical treatment.
Aftab then filed a formal complaint with the police, and a case was registered under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. The incident has drawn condemnation from animal rights activists and the public, who have called for stricter action against the accused.
The police have initiated an investigation into the matter, and further legal proceedings are expected to follow. The case highlights concerns about animal abuse and the need for stronger enforcement of animal protection laws in the country.
