Operations on the Blue Line of the Delhi Metro have been severely disrupted due to an overnight cable theft between Moti Nagar and Kirti Nagar stations. The incident, which took place early on Thursday, has forced the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to implement restricted speeds and delay train services on the affected stretch for the entire day.

The DMRC confirmed the theft and announced that repair work would begin at 12:45 pm on Thursday. During this time, single-line operations will be in place between Subhash Nagar and Kirti Nagar stations. This measure is expected to cause delays in services across the Blue Line, as trains are running at reduced speeds.

In case the repair work is not completed within the scheduled time, DMRC officials have stated that the repairs will resume in the night hours after passenger services have concluded to minimize disruption.

The theft occurred in an area not covered by CCTV surveillance, as it is located along a stretch of track adjacent to an industrial zone, which makes it more vulnerable to such incidents. DMRC explained that the lack of adequate monitoring in this section, coupled with the darkness during the night, made it difficult to capture clear footage of the culprits, even from the station's CCTV cameras.

The cable theft has had a cascading effect on train schedules, with the restricted movement causing "bunching of trains" on the affected stretch. This has further aggravated delays, especially during peak hours, when the frequency of trains is higher. The DMRC issued a warning to commuters, advising them to plan their journeys accordingly, as travel times are expected to increase due to the slower-moving trains.

"Due to the slow movement of trains on the affected section, the entire line is being impacted," the DMRC said in a statement. "Bunching of trains is leading to longer waiting times for passengers and delays in services across the Blue Line."

As the disruption continues, commuters have expressed frustration over the inconvenience, with many reporting delays and overcrowding at stations. However, the DMRC has apologized for the inconvenience caused and assured passengers that they are doing everything possible to complete the repairs swiftly and restore normal operations as soon as possible.

The Blue Line, which connects Dwarka in the west to Noida and Vaishali in the east, is one of the busiest corridors in the Delhi Metro network, catering to lakhs of passengers daily. With services disrupted for much of Thursday, the DMRC is urging passengers to be patient and cooperate with the authorities as they work to resolve the issue.

Passengers are also advised to keep updated through official channels for real-time information on the progress of repairs and any further delays.

The DMRC has stressed that securing the metro network from such incidents is a priority, and further steps will be taken to enhance surveillance and security measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
