Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has stated that people of all religions are safe in the state. He emphasized that if Hindus are safe, then Muslims are also safe, highlighting the law-and-order improvements since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took power in 2017.
Communal Riots Have Stopped Since 2017
Speaking in an interview with news agency ANI, CM Yogi pointed out that before 2017, Uttar Pradesh witnessed frequent communal riots. He noted that when riots occurred, both Hindu and Muslim communities suffered, but since the BJP government came to power, such incidents have stopped.
"In Uttar Pradesh, Muslims are the safest. If Hindus are safe, then they are also safe. If riots happened before 2017, both Hindu and Muslim homes and shops were affected. After 2017, riots have completely stopped," he stated.
Remarks on Religious Safety
Adityanath remarked that a Muslim family feels safe living among a hundred Hindu families. However, he questioned whether 50 Hindu families would feel the same security in a majority-Muslim neighborhood, citing examples from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.
"A Muslim family is the safest among a hundred Hindu families. They can freely practice their religion. But can 50 Hindus be safe among 100 Muslim families? Look at what happened in Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan," he said.
Support for Sanatan Dharma
The Chief Minister also spoke about Sanatan Dharma, calling it the world's most ancient religion. He asserted that Hindu rulers have never forced conversions or established dominion over others.
"Sanatan Dharma is the most ancient religion and culture in the world. Hindu rulers have never imposed their faith on others," he added.
Law & Order During Festivals
Regarding law and order during festivals like Ram Navami and Eid, CM Yogi mentioned that Uttar Pradesh has implemented strict guidelines to maintain peace. He also addressed concerns over the Holi celebrations near mosques, stating that authorities were ensuring no unwanted disruptions occurred.
"If you are playing with colors, it does not harm anyone. However, strict instructions are in place to prevent throwing colors on religious places," he clarified.
CM Yogi’s statements come as Uttar Pradesh continues to focus on maintaining peace and law and order while ensuring the safety of all religious communities.
