At least 40 schools in Delhi were on high alert on Monday morning after receiving bomb threats via e-mail, with the sender demanding a ransom of $30,000, according to Delhi Police.

The series of bomb threats began with GD Goenka School in Paschim Vihar and DPS RK Puram. Other schools including Mother Mary’s School, British School, Salwan Public School, and Cambridge School were also targeted, Delhi Police confirmed. The bomb threats were all communicated via e-mail.

The threat email, sent on December 8 at around 11:38 pm, read: “I planted multiple bombs (lead azide, explosive compound used in detonators) inside the building. I planted multiple bombs inside the building. The bombs are small and hidden very well. It will not cause very much damage to the building, but many people will be injured when the bombs detonate. You all deserve to suffer and lose limbs. If I do not receive USD 30,000, I will detonate the bombs.”

This morning, Mother Mary's School, British School, Salwan Public School, and Cambridge School received the same bomb threats via e-mail, the Delhi Police reported.

In response, students were sent home, and emergency services, including fire officials, the dog squad, bomb detection teams, and local police, were deployed to conduct search operations at the affected schools.

As of now, authorities have found nothing suspicious, according to a police official.

‘Central Government Has Failed’

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi criticized the central government, blaming the BJP-led administration for failing in its responsibility to ensure the safety of Delhi’s citizens.

“After the daily incidents of ransom, murders, firing in Delhi, now threats of bombing of schools are being received. The law and order situation in Delhi has never been so bad before. The BJP-ruled central government has failed in its only task of providing security to the people of Delhi,” Atishi posted on X.

Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also joined the criticism, accusing Union Home Minister Amit Shah of failing to maintain law and order in the capital.

“The people of Delhi have never seen such a bad state of law and order in Delhi before. Amit Shah ji should come and answer the people of Delhi,” Arvind Kejriwal posted on X.

The authorities are continuing their investigation into the origin of the threats and working to ensure the safety of all schools in the region.
