Delhi court has ordered the registration of a fresh FIR against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal and other party leaders over allegations of misusing public funds. The case relates to putting up large party hoardings in Dwarka in 2019. The order was issued by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Neha Mittal at Rouse Avenue Court on Tuesday.
Background of the Case
The complaint alleges that AAP used government funds for political advertisements, which is against the law. The court directed the authorities to investigate the matter and take necessary action.
This decision comes just weeks after AAP lost power in Delhi to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after ruling the capital for over a decade. Arvind Kejriwal, who contested from the New Delhi constituency, was defeated by BJP's Parvesh Verma in the recent assembly elections.
Other Legal Troubles for Kejriwal
Kejriwal is already facing legal challenges in the Delhi excise policy case, in which he was granted bail. The case involves alleged corruption in liquor license distribution, leading to losses of over ₹2,000 crore, according to a recent CAG report. His former deputy, Manish Sisodia, was also jailed in connection with this case.
BJP's Allegations Against AAP
Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva has accused Kejriwal and his party of corruption in running ‘Mohalla Clinics,’ claiming they were misused for personal gains. He stated that BJP is shutting down corruption, not healthcare facilities.
Meanwhile, Kejriwal is currently on a 10-day Vipassana meditation retreat in Punjab. BJP leaders claim that he is looking for a Rajya Sabha seat after losing power in Delhi.
