According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), this Wednesday, AQI was recorded at 373, a continuous 5th day when Delhi's Air Quality was recorded as ‘very poor’.
On Tuesday, Haze covered the city and the neighboring suburbs and the 24-hour AQI was recorded at 350, which was the highest this season. On Monday, it was 347 whereas on Sunday it was 325.
Moreover, In some parts of the city like Jahangirpuri, it was the highest of the season reaching ‘566’ which is in a Hazardous Category, this Sunday.
If we take into account the financial capital of India- Mumbai was in a moderate category with AQI at 173.
(Sources reveal that AQI is up to 50 (good), up to 100 (satisfactory), up to 200(moderate), up to 300(poor), up to 400 (very poor), and up to 500 (severe).)
Even the Supreme Court had a look at this matter, where Justice SK Kaul directed 5 states for the affidavits within a week,
"The concerned states should file an affidavit setting forth what steps they have taken to redeem the position. We call upon the states of Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan to file an affidavit within a week,"
This matter will be further addressed in the next hearing on November 7.
It is also highlighted that crop burning may be one of the reasons for increasing pollution in Delhi.
