The earthquake was reported by the National Center for Seismology (NCS), which confirmed the earthquake’s location as latitude 26.28 N and longitude 92.24 E.
Assam lies in Seismic Zone V, an area that is highly prone to earthquakes. The state has experienced several strong earthquakes in the past, including the 1950 Assam-Tibet earthquake and the 1897 Shillong earthquake, both of which were extremely powerful.
