Farmers from Punjab break police barricades near Noida and begin a march towards Delhi, demanding a discussion on Minimum Support Price (MSP). Security arrangements have been tightened as the protest intensifies.

Farmers from Punjab, demanding a discussion on the Minimum Support Price (MSP), broke police barricades near the Dalit Prerna Sthal in Noida and began their march towards Delhi. The protest, led by the Bharatiya Kisan Parishad, commenced on Monday as a group of farmers gathered at the Maha Maya flyover in Noida around noon.

The farmers had earlier announced their intention to march towards Delhi, putting pressure on the government to address their long-standing demands regarding the MSP, a crucial issue for many farmers across the country. The protest comes amid growing concerns over the rising cost of farming and the lack of adequate compensation for crops under the current MSP framework.

To prevent the farmers from entering Delhi, the Delhi Police had put up strong barricades near major entry points in East Delhi. Sagar Singh Kalsi, the Additional Commissioner of Police for Eastern Range of Delhi Police, told PTI that they had made extensive security arrangements at all borders. "We have done barricading, have anti-riot equipment. There is an elaborate arrangement, we are also ensuring that common people won't get affected, we are also coordinating with traffic police. We are drone surveillance," Kalsi said, emphasizing the steps taken to handle the situation.

Despite these measures, the protesters, determined to press their demands, broke through the barricades and proceeded towards Delhi. Photos from the scene showed the scale of the protest, with large groups of farmers marching and defying police efforts to stop them. The farmers chanted slogans and carried placards demanding that their voices be heard in the national capital.

To further ensure the safety of citizens and maintain law and order, Joint Commissioner of Police Sanjay Kumar stated that Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita had been enforced in Delhi due to the ongoing Parliament session. This section gives authorities the power to impose certain restrictions on public movements during such times to avoid any disturbances.

"We are prepared for any eventuality, especially with the Parliament session ongoing. Extra deployment of personnel has been done at critical points like the Mahamaya flyover, district border, DND, and Kalindi Kunj to ensure that the situation remains under control," Kumar said. The police also made arrangements to divert traffic, ensuring the movement of vehicles was not severely impacted in the area.

The farmers' protest has drawn attention to the ongoing issues within the agricultural sector, especially the need for a fair and transparent pricing system for crops. The government has been urged to consider reforms in the MSP system, which many farmers feel is inadequate to meet the rising costs of production.

As the protest continues, it remains to be seen how the situation will unfold and whether the government will engage in discussions with the protesting farmers to address their concerns. With the ongoing tension at the borders of Delhi, the protest is expected to be a major topic of discussion in the coming days.
