India is working on developing its own Artificial Intelligence (AI) model, similar to ChatGPT. The government has announced that the model will be ready in 10 months, making India more self-reliant in AI.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared that the AI project is already underway with help from startups, researchers, and professors. The new model will focus on India’s unique languages, cultures, and needs.

Strong AI Infrastructure in India

India has invested in a strong AI infrastructure, with over 18,600 GPUs (powerful computer units) available for training AI models. These GPUs are essential for creating AI systems like ChatGPT. India’s GPU numbers are higher than many countries, helping it compete globally.

The government is also creating a special facility where AI startups and researchers can use these GPUs without paying high costs. This is helping smaller teams join the AI development efforts.

India’s AI Model Focused on Diversity

The new AI model will be designed to understand India’s many languages and cultures. India is building the AI model to meet local needs, and it is expected to be ready in 4 to 10 months.

Six developers are working on the project, and the government is confident that advancements in technology will help speed up the development process.
