In a disturbing incident that has raised concerns about safety protocols, an IndiGo passenger has shared his painful experience of suffering a broken ankle while deboarding a flight in Mumbai, blaming the airline for negligence. The passenger, who wishes to remain anonymous, was reportedly walking on a wet ramp when he slipped and fell, leading to a serious injury that required immediate surgery.
The incident occurred after the passenger disembarked from a flight and was walking on the tarmac towards the terminal. The passenger claims that the ramp was wet due to rain, and despite the hazardous conditions, there were no warning signs or precautions taken by the airline to address the safety risk. In a statement to the media, the passenger described the ordeal as "terrifying," stating that the pain from the fall was immense, and he was unable to move after the injury.
According to the victim, the airline failed to provide adequate support or assistance in the aftermath of the accident. The passenger was rushed to the hospital, where he underwent surgery for a broken ankle. In addition to the physical trauma, he expressed frustration over the airline’s lack of accountability and its response to the incident.
In response to the allegations, IndiGo issued a statement denying any negligence. The airline claimed that the incident was caused by "external weather conditions" and emphasized that safety measures are always in place to ensure the well-being of passengers. IndiGo also expressed regret over the passenger's injury but maintained that the ramp was regularly inspected for safety compliance.
The passenger, however, is unconvinced by the airline's response and has called for more transparency and better safety measures, especially during adverse weather conditions. "It's not just about my injury," the passenger said, "It's about making sure this doesn't happen to someone else. If I can warn others, I will."
The incident has sparked a wider conversation about the safety protocols airlines implement during deboarding, particularly in rainy or wet conditions. Many passengers have expressed their concerns on social media, demanding stricter safety checks and improved precautions during such weather conditions.
As of now, the passenger is recovering from the surgery, but his painful experience has prompted many to question whether enough is being done to ensure the safety of airline passengers during deboarding.

On Aug 14 early morning I landed in Delhi's T2 on an Indigo flight from Chennai. As is most common with them, no aerobridge was given, and instead they asked everyone to deboard using their ramps.
