The Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj is causing heavy traffic jams, with effects reaching up to 130 km away, even in Banaras. The large crowds attending the festival have led to road disruptions, especially for vehicles traveling to and from the area.
For those using roadways buses, only specific routes will be operational. Buses from Varanasi Rural, Kashi, Cantt, Sonbhadra, Vindhyanagar, and Chandauli depots will go to Cantt via Mohansarai, Chandpur, and Lahartara. Other buses from Azamgarh, Jaunpur, and Ghazipur will not go beyond Harhua. Passengers will then be transferred by electric buses from Harhua to Choti Cutting Memorial Ground. Similarly, buses coming from Prayagraj and Mirzapur will stop at Transport Nagar Ground near Mohansarai, and passengers will be taken by electric buses to Chandpur.
If you're traveling in Banaras and your vehicle’s registration number doesn’t start with UP-65 (Banaras number), there’s no need to worry. You can still travel by showing your identity card to the police. The main goal of these traffic rules is to reduce the number of vehicles going towards crowded areas like the Ganga Ghats and Godaulia. Visitors are asked to cooperate with authorities to ease traffic flow during this busy period.
