MG Contractors Pvt. Ltd. (MGCPL) has completed a 210-meter-long bridge for the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project. The bridge, called GAD-9, is located at Vaghaldhara village in Gujarat’s Valsad district and crosses over National Highway NH-48.
This bridge has four spans (40m + 65m + 65m + 40m) and was built using 72 segments that were made offsite and launched one by one. This method allowed traffic on the highway to continue without any stops.
The bridge is part of Package P1(B) and lies between the future Vapi and Bilimora bullet train stations. MGCPL started work on this package in 2021 after winning a Rs. 549 crore contract from the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd. (NHSRCL). Their task includes building four concrete bridges and seven steel bridges along this stretch.
This is the third cantilever bridge built over NH-48 for the project. The first (260m) was finished in Amadpore village in August 2024, and the second (210m) in Sasodra village in October 2024.
So far, five bridges in Package P1(B) have been completed, including three concrete bridges and two steel girder bridges:
- GAD-1134 (70m): Steel bridge over NH-53 near Surat, finished in October 2023.
- GAD-11 (260m): Concrete bridge over NH-48 at Amadpore, finished in August 2024.
- GAD-68 (100m): Steel bridge near Silvassa, finished in August 2024.
- GAD-10 (210m): Concrete bridge over NH-48 at Sasodra, finished in October 2024.
- GAD-9 (210m): Concrete bridge over NH-48 at Vaghaldhara, finished in January 2025.
This bridge is another step forward in India’s plan to build a high-speed bullet train between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
