Namita Thapar and Anupam Mittal share differing views on work-life balance, with Anupam advocating long hours and Namita emphasizing healthy boundaries.

Balancing work and personal life is hard for many people, especially for entrepreneurs. Two famous entrepreneurs from the show Shark Tank India, Namita Thapar and Anupam Mittal, recently talked about this in an interview with Humans of Bombay.

Anupam Mittal, the founder of Shaadi.com, believes that work-life balance is a “big lie” told to younger people. He thinks that to do something extraordinary, you cannot just count the hours you work. Anupam said that he and his team work 16 hours a day because they love what they are building. He believes that struggles make you stronger, and to succeed, you should put in all your effort in the early years of your career.

On the other hand, Namita Thapar, Executive Director of Emcure Pharmaceuticals, strongly disagreed with Anupam. She said that it’s wrong to expect everyone to work long hours. Namita explained that while business owners may benefit from working long hours, employees, like accountants, don’t get any extra rewards for it. She warned that long working hours can harm an employee’s health.

Namita also said that employees should have fixed working hours to stay healthy. Working extra hours during busy times is fine, but it should not happen all the time. She also talked about how overworking can hurt family life. She said if someone can’t balance work and family, they should rethink having a family, as being absent can affect children.

In their discussion, both Namita and Anupam had strong views, but their opinions were different. Anupam focused on hard work and sacrifice for success, while Namita talked about the need for a healthy work-life balance for employees.
